1. What first sparked your interest in neuroscience? Was there a specific moment, class, or person that inspired you?

The summer of my rising senior year in PUPP (Princeton University Preparatory Program) sparked my first interest in neuroscience! I had the opportunity to take an Intro to Neuroscience course and engage in plenty of research and experiments, including the dissection of a sheep brain—my fav! Since then, I have been drawn to the topic of neuroscience, particularly cognitive and clinical neuroscience. I’m excited to dive deeper into this field at college!

2. What has been the most rewarding or exciting part of studying neuroscience?

The most exciting part of studying neuroscience is the ability to recognize how/ why certain behaviors and patterns are triggered. It’s fascinating to know how much power the brain holds and its ability to process lots of information! It’s truly the coolest organ in the human body!!

3. What do you hope to do with your degree in the future? What kind of impact do you want to make?

With my degree, I hope to either go into the field of research or go off to medical school. Perhaps even both! I want to become a doctor who provides the best medical care for her community. I hope to contribute and to the Latinos in medicine as a fluent spanish speaker ready to represent my culture loud and proud.

4. What advice would you give to someone just starting their college application?

Breathe. Even though juggling academics, jobs, and other commitments on top of college applications can be overwhelming, remember to breathe. You are capable of anything you set your mind to! Taking care of yourself should always be one of your top priorities:). You got this!!!
