1. What first sparked your interest in your major? Was there a specific moment, class, or person that inspired you?
My teacher in my freshman year biology class really inspired me through her deep explanations of cellular processes and biomolecules. With encouragement from her, I decided to challenge myself further by enrolling in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and Honors Physics. Wanting to continue expanding my knowledge, especially in Biology and Chemistry, I have found it exciting to explore the subject even more in choosing Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as my major!

2. Why did you specifically choose your college to study this major? What benefits were provided or what stood out?
At the University of Richmond, you don’t have to come in knowing your major. As a liberal arts school, the University of Richmond encourages students to explore a wide range of subjects and to see what they are interested in, making it possible to major or minor in other areas as well! The university values collaboration between undergraduate students and faculty, offering opportunities such as summer research fellowships that allow students to deepen their passions and explore them further.

3. What do you hope to do with your degree in the future? What kind of impact do you want to make?
After completing my undergraduate studies I hope to pursue a career in the dental field. The opportunity to improve oral health while bringing a smile to people’s faces is very rewarding!

4. What was something you struggled with the most with application and how did you overcome it?
In my application, I struggled to find a unique essay topic and feared my application wouldn’t stand out among others. Reflecting on my personal experiences and the people who shaped me helped me feel more confident in my essay. I also learned to stop comparing myself to others, because it’s important to remember that someone will recognize what you can contribute to the school’s community.
